He was predeceased by: his parents, Alma Lewis Barfuss and Norma Gurnell Jacobsen. He is survived by: his wife Carol; his children, Steven Barfuss (Kristina), Debra Lamb (Randy), Susan Todd (Michael), Janice Barfuss, Julie Cook (Gary), Annette Cragun (Tyler) and Chris Barfuss (Becky); and his siblings, Ireta Jensen (Ken) and Brent Barfuss (Carol). He is also survived by 24 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Humanitarian Aid Fund.
