He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Edna Elizabeth Archbold and George Ernest Nichols; his wife Gwynne Roberts; and his children, Kristin Smout (Roger), Kerri Crawford, Tricia Buss (Ken), Marci Reed (Randon), Jaime Cragun (Brian) and Tyler Nichols. He was also cherished by 16 grandchildren.
