He was predeceased by: his wife Dorothy "Dee" Gardner; his daughter Laurie Gardner Weese; and his siblings, Carla Gardner Skeen, Max Gardner and Sandra Gardner Shupe.

He is survived by: his former wife Dorothy "Dee" Newton; his children, Robbie Gardner, Jamie Gardner, Tomi Gardner and Lyndie Gardner Chavez; and his siblings, Benny "Ben" Gardner, Michael "Mike" Gardner and CloDella "Clo" Gardner. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
