He was predeceased by: his parents, Rupert Herman and Virginia Herman (Yingling); his significant other Janice Meng-Berg; his siblings, Ruth Burkholder, Bill Herman and George Herman; and his grandchildren, John Wells and Avianna Pearson.
He is survived by: his children, Sandra Coffman (Duane), Michelle Fish (Derrick), Michael Herman II (Heather) and Amanda Herman; his siblings, Margret Warnock, Christina Jones, Richard Herman, David Herman and Daniel Herman; his grandchildren, Miranda Wells (Reba Goodrich), Tanner Struck, Damian Fish, Destiny Grant, Zach Sterrett, Dante Fish, Melanie Herman, Dawson Fish, Desmond Fish and Izzibella Fish; and his great grandchildren, Everleigh Struck, Elijah Sterrett and Hudson Struck.
