Naoma Nilsson Obituary
Naoma Noorda Nilsson, 88, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2022, in Murray, Utah, surrounded by family. She was born April 24, 1934, to Dutch parents Anna Sieverts and Hilbertus Noorda in Helper, Utah.
Naoma graduated from East High School and attended Brigham Young University, where she met Ray Morris Nilsson. They were married June 30, 1955, in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Naoma was an exemplary, loving, and sleep-deprived wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She lived a life of enduring faith and enjoyed working with her husband Ray in the Salt Lake Temple and serving with him as a missionary in the Houston Texas East Mission (2000-2002). A pioneer and early advocate of natural childbirth, Naoma was a gifted midwife, delivering babies in Utah and Idaho for over 20 years. She understood the sacred and spiritual nature of childbirth and is loved by the hundreds of mothers whom she served. Mom sewed many many dolls to give as gifts, each one with a unique personality, made specially for a loved one. While she could never be accused of being a great musician, she never stopped practicing. Her home was enriched with beautiful music, and she loved the performances of her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by children DeAnn (Lyle) Burkhart, Renée (Steve) Scheidell, Ray (Leslie) Nilsson, Darren (Peggy) Nilsson, Leslie (Diane) Nilsson, Celeste (Scott) Buchanan, Danielle (James) Hunter, and Wendy (Nathan) Tueller; 39 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and brothers Norman (Sharon) Noorda, LaMar Noorda, Leon (Katherine) Noorda, and Daniel (Noma) Noorda. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Viola Ward and brothers Ronald and Albert Noorda.
The family would like to thank Brigette Hansen RN, and Annaliese Toney for their tender hospice care.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 23, 2022 at noon at the Little Cottonwood 8th Ward located at 6180 S. Glenoaks Street, Murray Utah. A viewing will be held prior from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
