He was predeceased by: his parents, William Elbridge Atwood and Viola May Dixon; his brothers, William, Robert and Stanley; and his stepsons, David George and Gary Dean.

He is survived by: his stepsons, Michael Brent (Cheryl) and Stephen Mark (Corinne); his wife Joyce Godfrey; and his daughter-in-law Jeanine (David). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
