He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Carl Marinus and Emily Godfrey Fonnesbeck; his wife Helen Ruth Nelson; his sister Frieda Smith; and his children, Kenneth Fonnesbeck (Sheri), Kristen Fonnesbeck and Kraig Fonnesbeck. He was also cherished by three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
