He was predeceased by: his parents, William Mertz and Rosina Mertz; his siblings, Leonard Mertz, Lorna Atwood (Bennett) and Marlene Beaujeu; and his brother-in-law Keith Bown.
He is survived by: his spouse Betty Ann Tanner; his children, Brad Mertz (Shauna), Michele Sticklen (Scott), Lauralee Dwiggins (Daniel), Tom Mertz, John Mertz (Kelly) and Chris Mertz (Heather); his siblings, Gary Mertz (Bev), Ken Mertz (Diane), Della Brown, Jeanine Molnar (Frank) and Linda Varty (Larry); and his brothers-in-law, LaMont Atwood and Moe Beaujeu (Marilyn).
