Robert Bernard Arend Obituary
Robert Bernard Arend age 89, passed away peacefully at his home in Kanarraville, Utah on January 27, 2022. Robert was born in Toledo, Ohio on June 4, 1932 to Bernard H and Ethel M Arend. He attended school in Toledo including the University of Toledo. He met and fell in love with Margaret Ann Brown, they were married on October 6, 1951. Together they had five children, Diane, Craig, Keith, Gary and Grant. Margaret passed away on January 3, 1993.
He served as a member of the Ohio National Guard and was called to active duty in December of 1951. He served in the Korean War from 1952-1953. In 2010 he and his wife Joyce traveled back to Korea and visited areas where he served. After being discharged from the Army he moved to Riverside, California and worked as a meat cutter for his dad and uncle George. He later owned 3 meat markets. After selling the meat markets he went into food sales for XLNT foods and worked into sales management. Later he moved to Carl Buddig Company as district sales manager.
Robert enjoyed deep sea fishing on his boat with his sons he also loved playing golf and was very active in Scouting. In 1980 he and his family moved to Cedar City, Utah where he owned and operated a Wholesale Food Distributing Company. He was a member of the Cedar City Elks Lodge and in 1986 he served as the Exalted Ruler. He was then elected Secretary of the Lodge for 24 years. He was most proud of starting the “Shoes for kids” Program.
Robert married Joyce Richins in February 1994 and in 1997 they became EMT’s and started the Kanarraville Unit of the Iron County Ambulance service. They covered the Kanarraville and New Harmony areas. After ten years of around the clock service they retired. Joyce Passed away on October 10, 2017.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret and Joyce, and his son Grant. He is survived by his children Diane Courtney, Craig Arend, Keith Arend, and Gary Arend, brother Carl Arend and by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday February 2, 2022 at 1:00 pm at the Kanarraville City Cemetery. There will be a viewing also held on Wednesday from 11:00-12:30 at Heartlight Affordable Funeral Services located at 2002 North Main Street in Cedar City, Utah.
