He was predeceased by: his father Ray Kummer; his daughters, Megan and Crystal; his mother Maxine Bethers-Sorenson; and his granddaughter Courtney McRae-Grant.

He is survived by: his wife Connie Jean Kummer; his children, Jason Kummer, Angela "Angie" Coe (Justin), Angel McRae (Glenn), Adam Fugal (Johanna), Merrill Fugal (Tabitha), Danny Fugal (Kassie), David Fugal (Rebecca "Reba") and Jody Fugal (Ashley); his siblings, Gary Kummer (Pauline), Randy Kummer (Patty), Jeffrey Kummer (Kim) and Joy Clarke (Ralph); and his mother-in-law Annette Young.

“I worked with Brent for 12 years at the UVU Wasatch Campus. Brent took great pride in keeping the campus facility and grounds in immaculate condition. He was a perfectionist. Students, staff, and faculty never had to worry about the campus being ready for class. When it snowed the walks and parking lots were cleared before the first class started. Everyone appreciated Brent's dedication to his job and his commitment to UVU. God rest his soul. Tom Melville Campus Administrator (retired)”
