He was predeceased by: his parents, Elden Thompson and Theresa Venetta Cox Thompson; his siblings, Marion E, Glen, Neil, Marcia, Romona and Verd; and his son Robert Lee.

He is survived by: his wife Shelly Gene Thompson; his sons, Shayne Thompson (Wendy) and Kasey Thompson (Diana Thompson); and his stepdaughter Heather Fisher. He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
