He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Edna Mae Smedley and Walter Thornley Smedley; his wife Louise Smedley; his brother Lynn Smedley; his children, Stephanie Astle and Chad Smedley; his grandchildren, Braxton Astle, Brolin Astle, Landon Smedley, Rylee Haro and Brynn Astle; and his great grandchildren, Jay and Blakey Haro.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Sprint Car Hall Of Fame and Museum.
