He was predeceased by: his parents, Harvey Shields and Maxine Shields; his in-laws, Ross and Barbara Bell; his sister Myrna Jones; and his daughter Mandy Shields.

He is survived by: his wife Diane Shields; his children, Jared Shields (Janette), Chance Shields and Andrea Steadman (Kirk); his siblings, Wes Shields (Merle) and Kaye Cook (Dennis); and his brother-in-law Alan Murray (Julie).

“We love Rex and Diane! We are so grateful for their friendship. Rex gave extraordinary service to our family. He drove his flatbed truck to Emmett, ID to pick up our John Deere tractor and delivered it here in Erda! He brought a load of hay to our home and unloaded it for us! He gave new meaning to the term “ministering brother”, and we will always remember his kindness! His reliable service in the library meant so much to us as Primary teachers. His ready smile and friendship brought us joy!”
