He was predeceased by: his father Melvin Hyrum Gardner; and his sister Julie Ann Gardner. He is survived by: his children, Mindy McCoy (Thomas), Kendall Jed Gardner (Karisti), Shannon Blad (Jared) and Sara Hunt (Terron); his siblings, Dale Gardner (Amber), Gary Gardner (Stacy), Jeff Gardner (Christy), Penne Robinson (Wendell), Jana Carter (Scott) and DeeAnna Barlow (Jeff); and his mother Belva Sue Hunting Gardner.
