He was predeceased by: his parents, Nels Abelin and Maggie Bell Beal Hansen; his wife Vietta Loy Hansen; his sisters, Jennie Thomas and Maurine Tuttle; and his daughter Brenda Layton.

He is survived by: his sons, Robert Hansen (Kim), Richard Hansen and Kris Hansen (Jolynn). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
