He was predeceased by: his parents, James Ivan Bird and Lucy Bell Bird; his wife Pauline Marsing; his siblings, Tal Bird, Jimmy Bird and Rae Bell Jenkins; his daughter Tonya McGee; his stepchildren, Burke, Kevin Despain and Kathy Ivie; and his grandson Issac Ivie.
He is survived by: his children, Forrest Bird, Rod Bird (Sherrie) of Grand Junction, CO, Lisa Ivie (Joe), Roosevelt, Ronda Despain and Terry Despain (Marilyn); his daughters-in-law, Chris Despain, Montana and Elaine Despain; and his siblings, Hazel Bird, Connie Gines and Paul Bird (Sandy). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
