He was predeceased by: his parents, Aldon Junius and Ora Zollinger Thompson; his wives, Betty Mae and Aleta May Wharton Nielsen; his son Scott Nielsen; and his brother McAldon Thompson.
He is survived by: his daughters, Jeri Garn (Kevin), Natalie Kay (Ted), Kris Udy (Boyd), Keeley Hardy (Van) and Traci Forsey (Mark); and his siblings, Richard Z Thompson (Kaaren), Aldene Thompson, David Z Thompson (Trudy), Henry Z Thompson (Kathy) and Rose Ann Linford Smith (Tom).
