He was predeceased by: his parents, Magnus Ahlstrom and Thelma Gardner (Hunter); his son Shane Gardner; his stepgrandson Patrick Killabrew; his sister Terri Jane Gardner; his sister-in-law Debbie Jackson; and his nephew William Magnus Gardner.

He is survived by: his wife Penny Arlain (Jackson); his sons, William (Wendy Farnsworth), Richard, Brett (Ivory McClanahan), Cody (Kathrine Barton) and Timothy (Holli Winder); his grandchildren, Quinn (Kimber), Seth, Jayce (Curtis), Cidney, Chase, Dallin, Colton, Keltan, Arlo, Triston, Thelma, Joyce, Elizabeth, Grace, Eleanore, Lovina and Daxton; and his daughter-in-law JoDene (Small). He is also survived by Great Grandchildren.
