He was predeceased by: his parents, Elwin Armstrong and Marva Armstrong; his sister Audrey Armstrong Birch; and his former wife Rhea Chidester Armstrong. He is survived by: his wife Cheryl Sherman Armstrong; his children, Val Armstrong and Mischel Shipley; and his grandchildren, Keanen Fahey, Christina Chacon, Ashley Fabila and Stephanie Roberson. He is also survived by his five step children, 16 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.
