He was predeceased by: his parents, Alta Maria Earl and Gordon Phillip Johnston; his sister Shauna DeWaal (John); his sons, Kelly and Kip; and his great grandchild Duke Sorensen (Barbara).

He is survived by: his wife Barbara Josephine Bouck; his children, Kirt and Kim; his grandchildren, Amber, Ashlee (Dump), Cheyanne (Stran), Garrett, Korey, Nathan and Wyatt (Bri); his great grandchildren, Deavon, Dreylynn, Emmitt, Jaylee, Kadrian, Kamari, Quincy, Teonea, Tesslynn, Wesley and Zinnia; his sister Joan Chatwin (Duane); and his nieces and nephews, Kirt (Crystal) and Kim Carter.
