He was predeceased by: his parents, John Eldon Swenson and Erma Jarmin Swenson; his wife Connie Swenson; his brothers, LaVell and Merlin Swenson; and his sons, John and Mike Swenson.
He is survived by: his siblings, Dawnetta, Garn and Elma Rae; and his children, Barbara, Blair (Paula), Craig (Heidi), Jim and Linda Simmons (Ed). He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
His contributions to the community were recognized with numerous awards, including "The Wrestling Coach of the Year" in 1979, the "Favorite Teacher Award" multiple times, and the "Distinguished Service Award" from the Utah High School Athletic Association in 2007.
