He was predeceased by: his mother Mary Lou Vela; his grandmother Amelia Salinas; and his daughter Briana Lynn Vela. He is survived by: his father Eleasar Vela; his sons, Brandon Vela Villarreal and Edward Vela Jr.; his grandchildren, Melanie Vela and Jaylen Gamez; his brother Jesse Vela; his aunts, Sandra Salinas and DeAnne Salinas Banda; his stepsiblings, Trinidad Garcia, Dino Garcia, Dean Garcia, Annette Franco and Mary Jane Garcia; and his half-brother Jackie Rios. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
