He was predeceased by: his siblings, Shirley Wenske and Bill Opela; and his brother-in-law Leonard Harabis. He is survived by: his wife Beatrice Opela (Pekar) of Yoakum; his daughters, Cheryl Machicek (Joseph) of Hillje, Lynette Vyvjala (Darrell) and Tiffany Janda (Greg) of Schulenburg; his grandchildren, Kirsten Bussell (Jacoby), Shayla Pulliam (Desmond), Blaine, Daylon Machicek, Kade, Brandt, Layne Vyvjala, Jayse and Aubryn Janda; his great grandchildren, Adi, Ross and Glenn Pulliam; his sisters, Delores Vyoral (Daniel) of Victoria, Joyce Khan (Pervez) of Humble and Mary Jane Harabis of Victoria; and his brother-in-law Clarence Wenske of Victoria.

Memorials may be given to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Hospice of South Texas.
