He was predeceased by: his parents, Edwin Ponewash and Stella Ponewash; his former wife Theresa Lynn Kienzle Ponewash; his sons, Theodore and Timothy Ponewash; his siblings, LaVon Schroeder and Jim Ponewash; and his stepson Darryl Bartek.
He is survived by: his wife Louise Bartek Ponewash; his children, Denise Blomquist (Mark) and Darren Ponewash (Antoniette); his grandchildren, Ashlynn, Alicia Blomquist, Jordyn, Sarah Ponewash, Joshua, Matthew and Zachary Ponewash; and his stepsons, Larry and Brian Bartek.
