Verta Pauline (Mills) Sutton Obituary

We are sad to announce that on February 23, 2021, at the age of 78, Verta Pauline Sutton of Wheeler, Texas passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

Verta “Pauline” Sutton was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world Tuesday February 23, 2021 in Austin Texas at the Christopher Hospice House. She was 78 yrs old.

She was born to Nina and Guy Mills on December 12, 1942. She married Leon Sutton and together they had 3 children: Johnny, Sam, and Kelli.

Pauline loved serving others. When she lived in Wheeler Texas, she worked in x-ray, worked in the school, and a caregiver to her children. After the divorce Pauline moved to Amarillo Texas where she worked as a receptionist at an advertising company. Later she moved to Childress Texas where she was the caregiver to her parents Nina and Guy Mills. After their passing she began to be the caregiver to her son Johnny Sutton after his accident.

Pauline loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved teaching her children and grandchildren how to cook delicious meals in the kitchen. She loved traveling, going to casinos with her best friend Paula, playing the piano, dancing/music, laughing, working in the garden, but mostly just spending time with her children, grandchildren and her best friend.

We will be having a memorial service for her at our family reunion in Childress Texas in June. Her ashes will be buried by her parents in the Childress Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice Austin’s Christopher House in honor of Pauline Sutton.
