He was predeceased by: his parents, Asencion Cortez and Petra Cortez; and his wife Consuelo Cortez. He is survived by: his children, Jose Cortez of Donna, TX, Miguel Cortez of Donna, TX, Asencion Cortez of Mercedes, TX, Alfredo Cortez of Weslaco, TX, Maria Cortez of Brownsville, TX, Susana Cortez of Weslaco, TX., Esperanza Cortez of Weslaco, TX. and Petra Cortez of Weslaco, TX.. He is also survived by 38 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren & numerous great-great grandchildren.
