She was predeceased by: her significant other James Madison McElwee; her son David Michael Christopher; her parents, Allen Hill and Lucy Hill; and her brother Charles Hill.

She is survived by: her daughter Star Black of Kennesaw; her grandson Marc Smith of West Virginia; her stepsons, James Brent McElwee of Austin and Barry Scott McElwee (Jeanne) of Nederland, Texas.; her grandchildren, Ryan, Cory of Austin, Erin, Julia and Jason of Nederland Texas; her great grandchildren, Emily and Izabelle Smith of Alpena, Michigan.; and her sisters, Dorothy Wesley of Magnolia and Collen Gore of Azle. She is also survived by friends, nieces, nephews, cousins.

She was a charter member of the Department of Homeland Security and was continuously recognized for her contribution to survivors of disasters.
