She was predeceased by: her son Brian Edward Johns; her husband Robert L. Sowell; her brother Charles Backstrom; and her son-in-law Jeffrey L. Roberson, Sr.. She is survived by: her parents, Emma Harris and Carson Backstrom; her former spouses, James C. Johns, Jr., Peter V. Johns, Sr. (Beverly) and Renetta Roquemore (Darryl); and her sisters, Virgail Amos (James), Joette Wood-Patrick (Brent), Kim Wood and Arlene Wood.
