He was predeceased by: his parents, Nettie Loretta (Tommie) and Cecil W. Shearer; and his son Don. He is survived by: his children, Ray McDonald (Don) and Debra Elizabeth (Debbie); his wife Martha McDonald; his son-in-law Chip Court; his granddaughters, Kate (Clint Carton) and Meg; his sister Ann; his brother-in-law Charlie Richie; and his nieces and nephews, Cheryl, Mike Galifaro, Jeanette, Chuck Richie, Margaret, Howard Marshall and Becky Banes.
