He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence W. Pointer and Annie Pointer (Stults); his brother Richard W. Pointer; his daughter Nikki Anderton; and his great grandchildren, Houston Cooper and Eric T. Cooper, II.

He is survived by: his children, Stephanie Cooper (Eric) and David L. Pointer, Jr. (Melinda); his grandchildren, Hazel Pointer and David Pointer, III (Pin Chen); his children, Steven Pointer (Jessica), John Pointer, Emily Andrews (Dalton), Hallie Pointer, Eric T. Cooper, Benjamin E. Cooper, James Pointer (Melinda), William "Billy" Cooper (Alena), Anthony "Tony" Cooper, Davey S. Kennington and Gabriel O'Neal (Audrey); and his great grandchildren, Bradley, Valerie, Kendra, Nathan, Liah, Mia, Aden, Abby, Joey and Genesis.
