He was predeceased by: his father Elick Mathis Jr. Billy; and his brother Johnny E. Mathis. He is survived by: his wife Marcella "Sally" Backus Mathis; his mother Helen Ruth McKiddy (McKiddy); his daughters, Savannah Toon and Charlotte Myers (Kenneth); his siblings, Danny R. Mathis, Buck Mathis, David Mathis, Rose Grubb, Sandra Stenberg, Glenda Villareal and Velma Bullard; his nephews, Matthew Duggan, Terry L. Toon, Joe Toon and Nicholas Toon; and his aunt Shelia K. Mathis. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
