He was predeceased by: his parents, Heinrich Basse and Luise Weinecke; and his siblings, Wilhelm Basse and Heinrich Basse. He is survived by: his wife Patricia Scanlon; his children, Helen Basse, Mathew Basse (Andree), Kathleen Paukner and Laura Mullins; and his sisters, Hannelore Sheets and Helga Basse. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends.
