He was predeceased by: his parents, Berthold Kelm and Mary Kelm of Walburg, Texas.; and his granddaughter Gracie Joy. He is survived by: his wife Joanne; his daughter Sharon; his son-in-law Kevin Andersen; his daughters, Pamela Kelm-Zabel and Melissa Kelm-Holland; his grandchildren, Madison Holland-Bryant (Harrison), Valerie and Carson Andersen; and his great grandchild Brynleigh Grace.

In lieu of flowers, donations my be made to Concordia University, Austin, Texas.
