He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Ethel and John M. Hawes, Sr.; and his sister Mary Ethel Reeder of Arlington. He is survived by: his wife Margaret Metz Hawes; his children, Beth Hawes West (Allen) of Dallas, John Morris Hawes III (Cathy) of Waco, Arthur Stampp Hawes, MD (Karen) of Springfield, MO and David Andrew Hawes (Jeanne) of Austin; his sister Lucy Hawes Thompson of Arlington; and his brother-in-law Davis Metz (Charles Metz) of Waco. He is also survived by his 21 grandchildren and their spouses, and 23 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, February 21st 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home (6101 Bosque Blvd, Waco, TX 76710). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 22nd 2025 at 2:30 PM at the First Presbyterian Church (1100 Austin Ave, Waco, TX 76701).
