He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Downing and Bonnie Downing; his brother Joseph Downing; his daughters, Sheena Downing and Deanna Downing; his stepson Ricky Dale Bynum, Sr.; and his granddaughter Samantha Ricki-Deniese Frankenfield.
He is survived by: his wife Wilda Deniese Downing; his brother Larry Downing; and his children, Valarie Bynum, Johnny Bynum, Jr. and Glenn "Buddy" Stark, Jr.. He is also survived by other family members and friends.
