He was predeceased by: his wife Macaria Briseno Ortiz; his mother Juanita Ortiz; his sisters, Amelia Perez and Dominga Verdeja; and his grandson Allen Ortiz.

He is survived by: his daughter Dolores Ortiz Postel; his grandchildren, Patrick Rocha, Theresa Rocha, Raquel P. Rojas, Carlos Rios Jr., Evyonne and Armando Rios; his daughter Mary Sauceda; his grandson Raymond Aguirre Jr.; his daughter Dalia Aleman; his grandsons, Juan Alvarado, Mike Alvarado, Dody and Salvador Aleman; his daughter Janie Ortiz; his grandchildren, Frank Arevalo, Faith, Lisa McClellan and Brandon; his daughter Susana Ortiz Muniz; his grandchildren, Sophia Muniz, Edgar Garcia, Roxanne Muniz and Ramon Muniz; his son Joey Ortiz; his grandchildren, Naomi Jellison, Richard, Jon-Tait Ortiz and Emaly Ortiz; his daughter Cynthia Ortiz Guzman; his granddaughter Krystal Stuckwisch; his sisters, Paula Morales and Manuela Viesca; and his great great grandchild Susano.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Susano's memory be given to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
