He was predeceased by: his parents, David J. Schmelzer and Mary M. Schmelzer (Dederich); his sons, Kevin Schmelzer and Keith Schmelzer; and his siblings, Anna Fontana Schmelzer and John D. Schmelzer.
He is survived by: his wife Deborah Steele; his children, Timothy Schmelzer, Shawn Schmelzer (Sylvia) and Jessica Schultze (Mark); his brother Gary Schmelzer (Constance); and his grandchildren, Michael, Cameron, Christian, John Cole and Caleb. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
