Neal Nygard wrote a sympathy message

“Erin and Sean, We are so very, very sorry for your families' loss. The Nygard family has a deep debt of gratitude for the tireless work your dad and mom did in helping to save our valley in North Dakota from a planned Corps of Engineers dam. And as for me, my life was forever changed for the better by the mentoring, example, and advice your dad gave me while I was in college. I am a physician today because of John Ward, period. You do not grieve alone. God's peace to you all. Neal Nygard”
