He was predeceased by: his parents, John R. Smith and Bertha Beard Smith; his siblings, Robert R. Smith and Becky Schurtz; and his grandson Benjamin Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Smith of Troup; his children, Douglas Smith of Troup, Susan Cooper of Longview and Deborah Brown of Longview; his grandchildren, Megan Fallin (Kent), James Cooper (Kori) and Miranda Hunt (Bryan); and his great grandchildren, Crosby Fallin, Larkin Hunt, Ryni Hunt and Fawkes Hunt.
