Joshua Wade Gates Obituary
Joshua Wade Gates, 39, of Trinity, Texas, passed away on April 23, 2025. Though his time here was far too short, Joshua lived with quiet intention, deep loyalty, and a love for his family that shaped every part of his life.
Born on December 19, 1985, to Harvey Gates and Sandra Gerick, Josh was a man full of life, steady love, and quiet strength. He had a calm presence, rarely drawn to crowds, but deeply devoted to those closest to him. He had a big heart, a sharp wit, and a deep love for the outdoors. As a proud towboat captain, he spent his days navigating waters and his free time fishing, hunting, and soaking up the peace only nature could offer in moments shared with the ones he loved most.
His proudest title by far was Dad. He was the guiding light and protector to his four children — Austin, Eli, Emilyn, and Tyler — and the beloved partner and best friend of Heather Ellis, with whom he built a life full of love and resilience. His children were his world, and his strength, wisdom, and laughter will live on in them always.
Josh is also survived by his father, Harvey Gates, mother, Sandra Gerick, his brother Justin Gates and wife Trisha, his sister Joni Gates, nieces Victoria Gates and Carolyn Madera, nephews Logan Gates and Easton Madera, and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his uncle Daniel Garcia, who held a special place in his heart, stepfather Louis Gerick, and his beloved grandparents, who surely welcomed him with open arms.
