He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Raymond York and Bertha Lee York (Emerson); his wife Wilma Jean McEnturff; his son Steven Wayne York; his siblings, Earnest Nathen York, Thomas Howard York, Carl Raymond "Butch" York, Jr., Betty Clyde Malone and Bobbie Ann Coleman; and his great grandchildren, Albert Frank Brewster III (Trey) and William Shane Brewster.

He is survived by: his children, Tommy Haskell York (Kim) of Weimar, TX and Debbie York Scates (Robert) of Tomball; and his brother Paul York (Judy) of Athens. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.

Sherman built a career in foundation drilling, owning a company in Houston, and retiring at 75.
