He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Sorter and Betty Sorter (Blacksmith); his siblings, Diana Sorter Paris of Des Moines, IA, Deborah Sorter Prymek of Des Moines, IA and Robert "Bob" Sorter of Bandera, TX; and his sister-in-law Jane Shields of Terrell, TX..

He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Sorter; his daughters, Lori Sorter Walsh (Greg) of Sulphur, LA and Lisa Sorter Melone (David) of Broken Arrow, OK; his granddaughter Jessica Young of Indianapolis, IN; his daughters, Jordan Yandell of Sulphur, LA, Bethany Yandell of Sulphur, LA, Lexi Scott of Terrell, TX and Delaney Johnson of Broken Arrow, OK; his siblings, Gene Sorter of Winnfield, LA, Rodney Sorter of Des Moines, IA and Tammy Bullington of Des Moines, IA; his niece Michele Shields Rand (Richard); and his nephews, Jeff Shields (Melanie), Craig Shields and David Shields (Dorthea). He is also survived by other nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and friends.
