He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Sandra Heffernan; his children, Adam (Betsy) of Dallas, Texas, Jodie (Eric) of Cape Girardeau, Missouri and Hal (Kyla) of Little Elm; his stepchildren, Tre Lents (Jamie) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Christie Clenney (Trevor) of Midlothian; his grandchildren, Skyler, Taryn, Kate, Emily, Meg, Avery, Caden, Aubrey, Casey, Chayse, Wesley, Ryen and Denver; his parents, Bill Heffernan and Anna Beth Heffernan; and his siblings, Dan Morgan of Leakey, Texas, Skip Heffernan of Madison, Wisconsin and Sue Heffernan (Costa Rica) of Uvita. He was also cherished by close friends with many of his Chi Rho brothers and their wives.
Services will be held at a later date after COVID-19 restrictions are lifted at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, Texas, with US Marine Corp Honors.
