He was predeceased by: his mother Mary R. Vargas; and his brother Rueben A. Vargas. He is survived by: his father Joe R. Vargas Sr.; his wife Nancy Vargas (Norman); his children, Amanda and Michael Acosta; his grandchildren, Mattie and Logan; his brother Joe R. Vargas Jr.; his sister-in-law Josie Vargas; and his sister Belinda A Vargas. He is also survived by Many nephews, nieces and friends.
