He was predeceased by: his parent Pete Laird; and his sister Shirley Hargett (Laird). He is survived by: his parent Mayna Laird (Crane); his spouse Mary Ann Laird of Temple; his children, Joe "Shack" Laird (Allison) of Temple, William "Bill" Laird of Temple and Lissa Hazard (Paul) of North Carolina; and his sister Cissy Thompson of Fort Worth. He is also survived by six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Crossroads Church of Belton.
