He was predeceased by: his parents, C. V. Sheffield and Zula Vivian Bryce Sheffield; and his siblings, Geraldine Ivy of Bertram and Jim Sheffield of Georgetown, Texas.. He is survived by: his wife Saundra Sheffield of Temple; his children, Leslie Sheffield House (David House) of Baton Rouge, Rodney Wade Sheffield of Houston and Misty Sheffield Stapp (Blake Stapp) of Temple, Texas.; his grandchildren, Dylan Tankersley of Baton Rouge, Lexie Tankersley (Jesse Perez) of Chicago, Cayden Stapp (Jamesia Stapp) and Brendon Stapp of Temple, Texas.; and his siblings, Buna Faye Loggains of Mena, Merlene Armendariz of Austin and C. V. Sheffield Jr. of Silver City.

After retirement, he owned and operated Sheffield Transfer Service until the start of the pandemic in 2020.
