It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Joe Chavez of Taft, Texas, who passed away on April 12, 2025, at the age of 74, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Pedro Chavez and Maria Smithwick Serna (Serna); and his sister Virginia Grace Chavez. He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann Chavez of Taft, Texas; his sons, Tony Orlando Chavez (Valerie) of Taft, Texas and Joe Henry Chavez (Monique) of Annaville, Texas; his stepchildren, Erica Mutchler (Josh) of Taft, Texas, Omar Alaniz (Mariah) of Taft, Texas, John Alaniz (Lizeth) of Manor, Texas and Augustine Alaniz of Bishop, Texas; his grandchildren, Allison Chavez (Marcus Riojas), Tony Chavez, Jr., Olivia S. Chavez, Elena Chavez and Mellina Chavez; his great grandchild Adaline G. Riojas; and his siblings, Pedro Chavez (Maria) of Ft. Moore, Georgia, Steven Chavez (Karry) of Sinton, Texas, Israel Chapa (Angelica) of Taft, Texas, Ludivina Aguirre, Nelda Acosta (Johnny) of Taft, Texas and Pat Chavez (Miguel Lara) of Annaville, Texas.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 16th 2025 from 9:30 AM to 3:19 PM at the Holy Family Catholic Church (646 McIntyre Ave, Taft, TX 78390). A funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, April 16th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Wednesday, April 16th 2025 at 11:30 AM at the Lamas Memorial Park Cemetery (800 Ave C, Taft, TX 78390).
