He was predeceased by: his father Raymond Scherwitz; and his wife Joanna Jones. He is survived by: his sons, John David Scherwitz (Shelli Annette Scherwitz), Bryan Dale Scherwitz (Michael Krause) and Travis Daniel Scherwitz; his grandchildren, Patrick Sloan Scherwitz, Kameron Jaymes Scherwitz, Karson Daniel Scherwitz and Dylan Shane Scherwitz; and his siblings, Larry Scherwitz (Deborah), Terry Scherwitz (Shelly) and Judy King (Edward). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
