He was predeceased by: his parents, William Joseph and Sophie Vavra (Kapchinski); and his siblings, Cecilla Vavra Lowrie, Frank, Herman and William Vince Vavra.

He is survived by: his wife Geraldine (Deany); his daughter Karen; his son-in-law Robert (Bob); his son Dennis; his daughter-in-law Alicia Vavra of Houston; his grandchildren, William Freeman (Melissa), Robert Freeman (Rachel), Adrienne Vavra and Alexis Thurston (Jason); his great grandchildren, Clara Nell, Finley and Dean Freeman; and his grandchildren, Tyler, McKayla and Gabriel Thurston. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
