He was predeceased by: his parents, Louie Smith and Nora; and his sister Bennie Lou Tobias. He is survived by: his wife Odell Wheelus; his sons, Troy (Janet) and Phillip (Lynn); his grandchildren, Stephanie Sterner (Sebastian), Kristina Howe, Jacob Ortiz and Nathan Ortiz; his son Aidan Nguyen; his great grandchildren, Gabriella Velasquez, Christian Lazo, Melody Howe of Olivia Lazo, E. J and Joshua Sterner; his siblings, Charles Smith, Phyllis Costner and Mona Bailey; and his sister-in-law Charlene Johnson (Kevin). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
